BIOGRAPHY
Damir Imamović’s sevdah is a new step in the development of the tradition of sevdah. Born in 1978 in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in a family of the legendary sevdah master Zaim Imamović and the bass player, author, producer and singer Nedžad Imamović, Damir started learning about the aesthetics of this traditional art as a child. In 2005 he began performing solo (vocal and guitar) after which he started his first Trio with which he recorded two noted CDs. Performances follow, among others with Bojan Z, Eric Vloeimans, Jadranka Stojaković, recordings with Vlatko Stefanovski, Hüsnü Şenlendirici, Frenkie and concerts in prestigious concert halls around the world (Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago Kolarac in Belgrade, BKC in Sarajevo, Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, CRR in Istanbul and others. After two CDs solo, Damir records again in 2012 with his critically acclaimed “Sevdah Takht” (with Nenad Kovačić and Ivan Mihajlović).
Marina Andree did a documentary “Sevdah” (2008) on Damir’s work and philosophy of sevdah. Apart from performances and recordings, Damir works as a researcher and educator with his program of lectures and workshops “SevdahLab” in which he explores history, aesthetics and craftman’s secrets of sevdah as a traditional art.
